Species Mixture in Chile
Out of scientific curiosity paired with ecologic reasons several forest owners in southern Chile established afforestations on former meadows using native tree species, partly in mixture with Douglas Fir.
As there is no data available on the growth of such mixtures, growth models will be derived within the Chilenian project "Bosques Seminaturales: Opción tecnológica para rehabilitación de bosques nativos" for the involved species: Nothofagus alpina, N. dombeyi and N. obliquas (native species) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii).
On the basis of field inventories, a regression analysis will be carried out under special consideration of the competitive situation inbetween these species. The overall aim of this analysis is to obtain optimal mixing ratios and mixing forms for future afforestations
