FeNeu: An innovative instrument for forest planning in Bavaria to better take into account changed forest structure, biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Previously established forest planning programmes are only suitable to a limited extent for providing reliable and comprehensive information as a basis for planning the sustainable management of forest enterprises. The suitability of the established evaluation and planning procedures in Bavaria for today's silviculture hardly seems to exist any more. Nor is the orientation of forest management planning towards timber production as the sole objective of forest management any longer in keeping with the times.
Therefore, within the framework of the project, existing evaluation procedures are to be reviewed and further developed. At the end of the project, it should be possible to map the new or further developed approaches and methods alongside established methods with a software solution developed internally within the project and primarily adapted to Bavaria in a first, basic version. Due to the great demand, this version should be especially geared to the conditions of the corporate forest. After appropriate testing and approval, this newly designed software solution is to be made freely accessible and expandable to forestry experts and other interested parties on the part of the applying institution, and is to be used in practice. Participatory structures are to be created on the part of the LWF in order to guarantee the content standards of the software and its further development in the long term.
