Plant-to-plant signaling in biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in Arabidopsis and barley.

Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) is a resource-efficient form of inducible immunity that protects plants from (hemi-)biotrophic pathogens. We previously associated SAR in Arabidopsis thaliana with the carbohydrate-binding LEGUME LECTIN-LIKE PROTEIN1 (LLP1), which promotes systemic immunity in parallel with salicylic acid (SA). In the proposed project, we will characterize the actions of LLP1 during SAR further and we will investigate a possible function in systemic stress tolerance of Hordeum vulgare (barley).
