Information to Zoom seminar: Prof. Dr. Saskia A. Hogenhout (John Innes Centre Norwich, UK)

Dear all,
This Thursday, it is my great pleasure to host Saskia Hogenhout from the John Innes Center in Norwich for a seminar. Saskia studies aphid transmitted plant diseases, most prominently witch's broom. Witch’s broom is a mechanism used by phytoplasmae to modulate plant and (their animal equivalents) animal growth and the resulting (dramatic) growth modifications are beneficial for phytoplasma transmission.

Saskia recently published a very important paper in Cell where she describes a novel mechanism of how an effector from phytoplasma can target protein degradation in through a proteasome but ubiqutin-independent manner that is certainly also tunable for biotechnological applications: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34536345/
