Information to Zoom seminar: Prof. Dr. Hans-Henning Kunz, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (DE)

Dear all,
It is my pleasure to host Henning Kunz for our Thursday’s SFB924 Zoom Seminar series on April 1st. He is a new colleague at the LMU Biocenter and here is a short bio of Henning:

  • In 2005, Henning earned a diploma in Biology from TU Kaiserslautern where he was trained in Ekkehard Neuhaus’s group and worked mainly nucleotide savaging pathways.
  • In 2006 he then joined Ulf-Ingo Flügge’s lab at the University of Cologne to pursue graduate studies in plant biochemistry. The main topic of his thesis was the discovery of fatty acid beta-oxidation in plant leaf cells as an energy resource in the absence of photosynthesis. His thesis was awarded with the Strasburger Price.
  • In 2010, Henning received a postdoctoral research fellowship from the Humboldt Society and the Human Frontiers Program. He joined Julian Schroeder’s group at UC San Diego to train in plant cell and stress biology. During this time, Henning discovered the first members of the KEA transporters in the chloroplasts.
  • In 2014, Henning relocated again and started his independent group as a tenure track Assistant Professor at Washington State University.
  • He was awarded an NSF career award in 2015.
  • The work in his lab is focused on:
    • the chloroplast ionome,
    • the organellar ion transportome
    • and chloroplast systems biology
  • In 2020 he received tenure at WSU but decided to return to Germany to start a lab at the LMU Biocenter (W3)
