1956 - 2016 - 2056. Reviewing the past and exploring the future
1956: Inauguration of the study course ‘Garden and Landscape Planning’ at Technical University of Munich (TUM). The aim was to educate a new generation of experts in environmental planning and landscape design. Since then, numerous professionals in landscape architecture and planning have completed their studies at TUM and have taken up key positions in politics, science and the wider society both in Germany and abroad.
2016: A year to celebrate past achievements with a special event in Munich, and to identify future directions during a symposium and a workshop in Freising within the ‘Weihenstephaner Forum’. There were discussions of potential challenges that will affect landscape research, teaching and the wider society in the coming 40 years.
2056: The year in which landscape studies most likely will celebrate a centenary at TUM. We are curious to know how our environment will look by then, how human societies will develop, and which methods and strategies in design, planning and research become available. We are looking for forward to some exciting days with controversial and creative exchange with renowned experts, colleagues, students, alumni and friends of our field of science!
Organisation: Chair of Landscape Architecture and Industrial Landscapes, Prof. Dr. Udo Weilacher in collaboration with colleagues at the Study Direction Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning
