Objective:
Increasing the number of highly qualified researchers in the field of plant and animal breeding.
Summary:
Training and education must keep pace with progress in research and development. The field of plant and animal breeding has a great demand for highly qualified young talents. Genome-based breeding requires excellent knowledge in quantitative and population as well as molecular genetics. In addition, management and stewardship of massive amounts of data with bioinformatic tools as well as a profound understanding of statistical concepts for data analysis and interpretation have become key components of next generation breeding. By offering interdisciplinary and inter-institutional graduate and post-graduate courses and summer schools the project S2 will contribute to training of the next generation of plant and animal breeders. Graduate courses and summer schools will be open to students trained within Synbreed as well as to students from other institutions and to colleagues from private industry.
Synbreed also aims at intensifying international scientific exchange. Researchers within the network will have the opportunity to spend time as visiting scientists in research groups abroad as well as invite international colleagues to their groups in Germany.
